Overview

At Accenture I was part of a team of interns who worked in the space of Green UX. We were guided and led by senior managers in the studio who had taken up the Green UX initiative to raise awareness among various stakeholders in the technology industry about the negative impact on the environment caused by digital products. As a part of this initiative I was expected to conduct extensive research about the topic and how designers can play a role in the Green UX initiative.

My Role

Timeline

9 Weeks

The Outcome

At the end of two months our team had produced a detailed Green UX playbook that was powered by intense research in the space of Green UX. In addition to that we created an extensive design system that was tailor made to minimise energy consumption, run time processing power, display pixels, rendering energy and many other factors to eventually ensure that the user experience was optimised to be as eco-friendly as possible.

I played a crucial role in conducted the secondary research about Green UX, right from identifying reliable sources and literature to learn more about Green UX, to the ideation about the kinds of outcomes that can be generated as a result of the research. I was able to guide my team members on the initial insights about Green UX and why it is really important for UX designers.

The outcomes of the project are under an NDA and I wont be able to share the design system or the playbook in the public domain, however if you are interested in learning more about the process and snippets of the outcome, please feel free to reach out to me.

Reflection

The two months at Accenture were incredibly rewarding, right from interacting with some really amazing and talented people to honing certain core abilities as a designer it was amazing. I had to opportunity to learn how it is to work with a real team and putting together a presentation to pitch to the leadership and somuch more.

The insights I gained from working on topics like Green UX will stay with me for the rest of my life, not just as a designer but as a general consumer of digital products too. The time I spent at Accenture helped me gain a strong grasp of visual communication, design systems, research methodologies and communication.
